Mount Vernon and the Potomac River
One of America’s most memorable sites is the east front of Mount Vernon. Originally in George Washington’s family from the 17th century, the land and buildings today represent a lifetime of dedication Washington brought to this place. In contrast to the formal western approach to the mansion along the major east-west axis on which it stands, the eastern vantage point over the Potomac is a tribute to the site’s natural beauty and remains much as it was in Washington’s time. The unique nature of this panoramic sepia photograph captures the full 360° grandeur of this historic place.
