Mount Vernon Annual & Collectible Ornaments
Mount Vernon Snow Globe Ornament
As Commander-in-Chief of the victorious Continental Army, George Washington had been away from Mount Vernon for more that eight years with only a brief stopover at his estate en route to final victory at Yorktown.
After resigning his commission in Annapolis on December 23rd he began his return to Mount Vernon on horseback. As he approached his estate, he began to notice the familiar signs of home; the smell of smoke from the mansion’s chimneys hanging in the cold air, the barking of dogs greeting a missed friend and hero.
At the mansion doorway on Christmas Eve, 1783, the General found the greatest reward for his long years of sacrifice; the loving embrace of his wife Martha.
This snow globe ornament is a celebration of that homecoming showing George and Martha Washington in front of a snow laden evergreen. An image of Mount Vernon is displayed on the snow globe’s pedestal. Red ribbon for hanging is included with the 3’ tall ornament.
