In His Likeness - Busts & Portraits
George Washington Prayer at Valley Forge Sculpture
George Washington was a devout man who believed in God. He was active in several churches, promoted the concept of religious freedom, encouraged his soldiers to have faith in God, and referred again and again to Divine Providence in his writings and speeches. At the same time, Washington was a private person who considered his faith a personal matter. He did not make a habit of discussing his beliefs or of preaching to others.
Whether Washington knelt in prayer at the winter encampment of Valley Forge may be legend or fact, but it remains a symbol of faith, patriotic duty, and the deep spiritual depths in the founding of our country. On frequent occasions, Washington paid homage publicly to the God of all nations and earnestly exhorted his soldiers and his fellow countrymen to “express our grateful acknowledgements to God, for the manifold blessings He has granted to us.”
This white resin classic sculpture of Washington is set on a 5 ¼’ x 3 ¾” oval base. The maximum height of the sculpture is 4 ¾”.
