Helenium Autumnale. Sneezeweed, is a perennial that, despite its name, does not provoke sneezing. It can reach a height of four feet and bears two inch daisy-like flowers from shades of yellow to mahogany. They look beautiful in a border and are excellent for cut flowers. Sneezeweed is not particular about the soil it grows in, but does like full sun and moist conditions.
Sown seed will germinate in one or two weeks. Helenium was in cultivation in America in 1729.
Heirloom seeds are collected from the gardens and grounds of George Washington's Mount Vernon and cleaned and packaged by hand.
