Lablab purpureus. This tender perennial is grown in many parts of the United States as an annual. It is a great ornamental vine for climbing up trellises, fences or poles and can reach 20' in height.
Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. The bright rosy purple flowers are fragrant and start opening in June and the plants will bloom until frost. A hummingbird favorite! The flowers will produce glossy, purple seed pods up to 6” long.
Plant seeds directly into the garden or start inside 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds and cover with 1” of soil or germination mix. Seeds germinate in 7-10 days at 70-72 degrees.
USDA Zones 10-11.
Heirloom seeds are collected, cleaned and packaged by hand at Mount Vernon.
