Harry S. Truman Ornament

Harry S. Truman Ornament

Regular Price: $16.95

Sale Price: $6.99

In 1944, Harry S. Truman ran on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s winning ticket as his vice president.  Truman took the presidential oath of office on April 12, 1945 upon Roosevelt’s untimely death.  Barely a month had passed when he was faced with the German surrender, and the decision to detonate atomic bombs over Japan to force their surrender.  After the war Truman’s attention shifted to post-war treaties, reconstruction in Europe and a new domestic program called “Fair Deal”, which addressed issues such as social security, employment protection and public housing.

Throughout both Truman’s terms, foreign policy matters, especially containing the spread of communism, were of foremost concern.  Truman presided over the signing of the United Nations charter and sent American troops as part of a U.N. contingent during the Korean War.  In 1950, Truman escaped an assassination attempt.  Two years later, he announced his retirement.

24 Karat Gold Finish and Fine Porcelain. The ornament is 2 ½” x 3 ½”.
