George Washington's family crest features a griffin, a mythical beast with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. The crest was part of the Washington family's full coat of arms. Washington used the crest on his silver throughout his life. The crest was also cast into 4 iron firebacks that Washington purchased in Philadelphia in 1787. This white porcelain plate has a dark blue rim edged in gold with the family crest centered on the plate in gold. The plate is 8" in diameter. Gift boxed.
