George Washington: First in War, First in Peace Campaign Pin

Regular Price: $4.00

In 1789, George Washington and his supporters wore the first political buttons during the first presidential inauguration in New York.  They were not exactly like the buttons we know today; instead of metal pins these campaign buttons were real brass buttons sewn on to coats.  Friend Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee, declared Washington to be “First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”
The George Washington campaign button is 1 ¾” in diameter.
