The extraordinary machinery shown on this mug has been reconstructed and is up and running at George Washington’s Whiskey Distillery and Gristmill.
The ceramic mug shows the drawings of an automated gristmill from the 1795 book “The Young Mill-Wright’s and Miller’s Guide” by Oliver Evans.  George Washington used Oliver Evans’ book to design his own revolutionary and innovative gristmill. The sturdy mug, hand decorated in Virginia, is 3 ¾” tall with a diameter of 3”.
