George Washington’s Coffee Pot Ornament

George Washington’s Coffee Pot Ornament

Regular Price: $16.95

Sale Price: $12.99

Coffee was enjoyed regularly at Mount Vernon, and as early as 1758, George Washington was buying ten pounds of the best Turkish coffee for himself and his guests.  On December 13, 1783, less than two weeks before resigning his commission as commander in chief, Washington noted the purchase of a “Silv Coffee Pot” in his cash memorandum.  Made in Philadelphia by Joseph Anthony, the coffee pot was engraved with the Washington Coat of Arms, and no doubt became a stately and elegant part of George and Martha Washington’s postwar entertaining.
The Washington silver exhibited at Mount Vernon is unquestionably the most important family collection of early American silver in existence today.
This 2 ½” tall silver tone ornament is a replica of Washington’s silver coffee pot which is in the Mount Vernon Collection.  Boxed ornament includes red ribbon for hanging.
