Digitalis purpurea.Foxglove is a biennial, meaning it will not bloom until the second year of growth.When in bloom the flowers are glorious on their erect leafy spikes with colors ranging from purple to white.Foxglove likes moist soil and does well in sun or partial shade.The two to four foot Foxglove are well suited as background material in a border and the flowers are excellent for cutting.Foxgloves are the source of digitalis which is used as a heart stimulant.
Sown seed will germinate in 15 to 20 days.
