Farmer George Plants a Nation

Farmer George Plants a Nation

Price: $17.95

By Peggy Thomas.  Illustrated by Layne Johnson.  ISBN 978-1-59078-460-0.  Copyright 2008.  Hardcover with 40 pages including 17 color paintings, timeline, bibliography, and excerpts from Washington’s writings.

Besides being a general and the first president of the United States, George Washington was also a farmer who enjoyed experimenting with seeds, tools, and fertilizers. He worked to create a self-sufficient farm at Mount Vernon as he tinkered with plows, designed a 16-sided barn, and plotted the location of each new tree he planted. Both illustrator and author worked closely with the staff at Mount Vernon to render an accurate portrait of Farmer George at work.
Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
