The Colonial Pineapple Suncatcher

The Colonial Pineapple Suncatcher

Price: $9.95

This Mount Vernon glass suncatcher ornament was handcrafted in Virginia  using the same methods used in George Washington's time. This design was inspired by the eighteenth century symbol for hospitality, the pineapple. This colonial tradition began when merchants and sea captains returning from the West Indies would present this rare and valuable fruit to their guests or host as a gesture of friendship and hospitality. George and Martha Washington were well known for their generous hospitality and served pineapple at Mount Vernon and in the presidential household in Philadelphia.
