Alyssum Saxatile. Basket of Gold is a shrubby perennial that only reaches 10" in height. It has gray foliage with light yellow flower clusters blooming from spring to early summer. It likes full sun and good drainage. After flowering, it is best if you cut the plants back. Excellent plant for fronts of borders, banks, and rock gardens.
Seeds germinate in two to three weeks at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Basket of Gold was first cultivated in Southeast Europe and later introduced in Britain in 1710.
Heirloom seeds are collected from the gardens and grounds of George Washington's Mount Vernon and cleaned and packaged by hand.
