Tarpley Knife and Flatware Chest
Price: $265.00
This knife box style flatware chest is named for James Tarpley, a merchant who built a store on the busy commercial block near the Capitol in 1759, when Williamsburg was the seat of the royal colony of Virginia. He advertised goods sold and illustrated products such as a knife and fork.
The natural mahogany case with vertical storage and removable racking is designed to accommodate flatware as well as the large scimitar blades and pistol-shaped handles in the 18th century style. When viewing the virtual tour of the small dining room at Mount Vernon or visiting in person, you will see similarly styled knife boxes displayed.
The lining is black tarnish-resistant silver cloth.
The chest measures 9 ½” x 15 ½” x 11 5/8” and holds service for up to 18, including serving pieces.
Created for Colonial Williamsburg by Reed & Barton, one of America's foremost marketers of fine tableware and giftware since 1824.
