The creation of the United States of America began over two centuries ago in the Revolutionary War.  In 1775, George Washington took command of the Continental Army which was made up of patriots from Massachusetts to Georgia who had banded together for a common goal-- independence from England.  Washington resigned his commission as Commander in Chief in 1783 and returned to his beloved Mount Vernon.
