Light Infantry Signal Whistle

Light Infantry Signal Whistle

Price: $8.95

During the American Revolution, General Washington used a small wooden whistle to signal commands to light infantry companies, who could not rely on the beating of the company drum to relay field communications above the din of battle.  The wooden signal produces one, high-pitched note.  Commands such “retreat”, “advance”, and “commence firing” were communicated by the duration of each note blown within a set pattern.

A leather carrying strap is included with the 4” wooden signal whistle.

Made by Cooperman Fife & Drum Company, Bellows Falls, Vermont.
