In a household filled with ornately decorated ceramics, blue and white Canton ware served as the “everyday china” for George Washington and his family. Washington’s orders show a particular fondness for this exotic tableware. He placed numerous orders with his agents in England and America to purchase hundreds of pieces of this richly decorated porcelain. Canton china is known for its traditional hand-painted river scenes and other views of domestic life in China.
