Sweet Lips with Quilted Pink and White Tote
George Washington imported a number of hounds from England in 1770 and then in 1785, he received French foxhounds from the Marquis de Lafayette. These hounds, carefully bred and maintained by Washington, are the founders of today’s American Foxhound. Washington noted that he wanted to breed “a superior dog, one that had speed, sense and brains.” Among Washington’s nearly thirty canine companions were Sweet Lips, Tipsy, Tipler, Cloe, Searcher, Drunkard, and the enormous Vulcan.
Mount Vernon’s plush “Sweet Lips” is tucked into a pink and white quilted tote bag. An embroidered name patch, “Sweet Lips at Mt. Vernon”, is on the side of the tote bag. The machine washable plush beagle is 6” tall and 8” from tip of nose to tip of tail. The surface washable tote bag is 6” x 4” x 3 ½”.
