A Taste of History, winner of two Emmy Awards, is an innovative series shown nationally on PBS that brings American history to life and makes it vibrant as we step back in time and get to know the founders of our country through the food they ate and the recipes they prepared.  The host of the series, Chef Walter Staib, demonstrates a true mastery in the preparation of sophisticated 18^th century cuisine, sure to inspire the home cook.

In this special four-episode edition, taken from season 3, visit the homes of  George and Martha Washington’s Mount Vernon where guests were never turned away, and James and Dolley Madison’s Montpelier where political opponents came together to solve differences at Mrs. Madison’s table. 

In episodes one and two, tour the “jewel of the Potomac” and join Chef Walter Staib in Washington’s very own kitchen as he prepares Roasted Beef Marrow, Baked Stuffed Sturgeon, Roasted Root Vegetables and Citrus Vinaigrette.  Meet “Martha Washington” and see the Washingtons’ personal china and silverware as Chef Staib cooks Pickled Herring Bonne Femme, Roasted Stuffed Grouse, Braised Sunchokes and Sweet Potato Biscuits. 

Each of these four episodes has a running time of 30 minutes.
