MOUNT VERNON, Va. – 1000 Revolutionary War re-enactors from across the nation come to Mount Vernon on September 29 and 30 to “occupy” the estate, camp in authentic tents, prepare meals, and demonstrate the drills and maneuvers used by General Washington's army. Musket and artillery demonstrations, fife and drum performances, and a variety of living history activities are featured throughout the weekend from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Included with regular admission to Mount Vernon: $13 for adults, $6 for youth ages 6-11, and free for children 5 and under.
The 1000 re-enactors will be in a festive mood this weekend: General Cornwallis was just defeated at Yorktown! The celebration over the British defeat includes stage maneuvers, drilling, musket and artillery firing, and tactical demonstrations. Watch and learn how the troops survived with 18th-century style cooking demonstrations over open fires.
The re-enactors will be gathering at Mount Vernon to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Continental Line, an educational organization of re-created Army units. The Continental Line organization’s primary goals are to guide and coordinate military re-enactment units, promote historical accuracy and increase public interest in the roots of America’s history.
