Rectangular, embossed leather, flat-top trunk featuring a straight leather skirt and sculpted leather handles with triangular end caps on each side. The leather on the lid and on the front of the base is embossed with a large-scale pattern of intersecting diamonds in each panel between the iron bands. It is bound with four iron bands around the front, top, and back of the body, secured with large brass buttons or tacks. A pair of short leather straps or keepers is secured with large buttons on the front of the lid, one on each side of the lock, and a corresponding pair of end caps is affixed to the front of the base, on each side of the lock. An iron lock with a brass keyhole escutcheon is mounted at the top center of the front panel and a hasp is mounted above it on the center front of the lid. A portion of the leather lid lift remains, secured to the center front of the lid above the lock. Two sets of hinges join the lid and base at their back edges. The inside of the lid has a false bottom with a rectangular cutout at center that allows access to the compartment within it. The interior of the trunk is lined with a cotton or linen printed with sprigs of red berries on a purple or brown striped and dotted background. The false bottom of the lid is further ornamented with a line of pinked and scalloped blue paper around its outside edge and around the opening for the compartment. Three generations of woven tape, intended to serve as stays for the lid, are nailed to the inside of the trunk on each side; they are now broken. Two battens or rollers are nailed to the bottom of the trunk, along the long sides.
