George Washington is just arriving in the central passage at Mount Vernon, where he greets and greating Martha Washington and a young Nelly Custis. Behind Washington are two men dressed in cloaks and military uniforms. Behind Martha on the stairs are four women in gowns, and standing in a doorway is an African-American enslaved man.
