Join the Archaeologists!

Volunteers and interns have helped Mount Vernon's archaeologists since 1987, donating more than 50,000 hours towards researching and restoring the estate.

To participate as an intern, you should be enrolled in a college or graduate program studying archaeology, anthropology, museum studies, historic preservation, history or a related field. We also accept recent graduates as interns and those starting out in our profession.

Field School

In 2014, we are offering a for-credit Field School in Historic Preservation through the University of Maryland. The class is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Volunteers

Mount Vernon Archaeology is accepting volunteers to help with a variety of activities at the archaeological site and the laboratory. Volunteers must be over 16 years old and have an interest in archaeology. A strong attention to detail, a sense of humor and willingness to speak with visitors about the archaeological excavation are also needed for successfully volunteering with Mount Vernon's archaeologists.

Interested volunteers should contact Karen Price.
