LAN Administrator

Responsibilities:

The LAN Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, operation, maintenance and health of all servers and related network infrastructure supporting all enterprise services.  The ideal candidate will possess a broad, blended IT background and demonstrated expertise with Windows network engineering, Windows server and Microsoft Exchange administration.  Previous experience in a HP Proliant, HP storage and HP Procurve environment is desired. 

The successful candidate will meet or exceed the following requirements:

- 5+ years experience managing and the complete command of industry standards including Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and clients, Active Directory, Group Policies, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Exchange as well as SQL Server administration and connectivity
- Experience managing and maintaining storage technologies such as RAID, SAN and NAS
- Experience managing backup, anti-virus and anti-spam systems
- Experience with evaluation, testing and implementation of systems’ updates including firmware, patches, security fixes and service packs
- Detailed, theoretical and practical knowledge of IP protocols, routers, firewalls, VPNs and switches
- LAN/WAN and wireless network design, implementation, configuration monitoring and security
- Experience implementing and managing virtualization technologies
- Experience with management of Linux operating systems
- Experience administering smartphones and other portable IT devices
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Solid interpersonal as well as oral and written communication skills
- Capability of passing criminal/background checks as well as drug screening

This position works standard Monday – Friday duty but should expect to sometimes work after hours/weekends/etc. to perform scheduled maintenance as well as to be on-call to respond to operational emergencies in a 24/7 environment.

Position:

Gardener III

Department:  

Horticulture Department

Responsibilities:

Historic Mount Vernon seeks a full-time professional gardener to apply the latest horticultural practices in an historic setting.  This position provides opportunities to work in an 18th century pleasure garden caring for heirloom perennials, annuals, vegetables, fruit trees and a variety of shrubs including boxwood. Position is hands-on and classified as “essential” staff, thus must participate in emergencies, ice and snow removal and special events. Occasional weekend and holiday work is required.

Incumbent will: Be responsible for all aspects of garden maintenance through the proper planting, pruning, fertilizing, harvesting and pest control of Mount Vernon’s premier exhibition garden; Be responsible for creating planting, harvesting and maintenance schedules;  Perform routine maintenance including mowing, raking, weeding, cultivating; Have ability to work independently but also supervise other gardeners and volunteers as well as interact positively with visitors; Maintain the high standards of Mount Vernon’s Gardens and Grounds.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 year degree in Horticulture or related science degree required 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience maintaining public gardens required
  • Experience in operating a variety of equipment including, tractors, trimmers, mowers and blowers
  • Knowledge and experience in proper application of pesticides, posses (has ability to obtain) a VA pesticide operator’s license
  • Good physical condition and able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Motivated Self Starter with a passion for gardening

Line Cook

Responsibilities:

The Line Cook will be responsible for kitchen activities including: Providing nutritious, safe, appealing and properly flavored foods; Assisting with daily luncheon specials, implementation and supervision of cleaning schedules; instruction and monitoring of sanitation standards; food storage and stock rotation; monitoring of food costs.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relative experience required
  • Experience in preparing a variety of meats including fowl, beef and seafood
  • Experience with preparing and grilling a variety of foods
  • Work different hotline stations including grilling, sautéing, baking, broiling, braising, roasting, blanching, steaming and frying
  • Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods
  • Prepare, carve and plate food for serving
  • Prior restaurant experience preferred
  • Must be organized, detail oriented and flexible
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must work well under pressure in a fast paced environment

The high volume Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant located at the entrance of George Washington’s Estate and Gardens and serving the visitors to the  Estate and all of the Washington Metropolitan area, is seeking to fill food server vacancies.  FT and PT positions available.  No prior experience is necessary for lunch shift employment.  Free meals, uniforms, parking, and flexible scheduling.  Benefits are available dependent on tenure and hours worked.

Responsibilities:

Wait/waitress staff will participate in all aspects of coordination and implementation of food service and will be responsible for guest/client relations.  Frequent evening and weekend duty required.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Must be very organized, detail oriented and flexible
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Must work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
