George Washington’s Mount Vernon is seeking a dynamic, creative designer who will help transform Mount Vernon’s web, mobile, and social media platforms.  The Interactive Designer will work with Mount Vernon’s New Media team to develop cutting edge digital products, web content, mobile sites, promotional creative, online video productions, social media engagements, and other interactive offerings.  In this role you will be collaborating with other web specialists, marketing executives, and talented historians at George Washington’s home on the Potomac – the most highly visited historic home in America. 

 

Responsibilities:
Leading our interactive design efforts, this position will be asked to conceptualize interactive designs, produce graphical mockups, develop creative content for web pages and other digital promotions, and work with the New Media team to implement our plans. Mount Vernon’s Interactive Designer will report to the Vice President of New Media. 
Mount Vernon’s Interactive Designer should be someone who has strong graphical design skills, a demonstrated ability to develop effective user interfaces, and an excellent understanding of HTML, CSS, and digital content management systems.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelors Degree (preferably in design related fields).  Candidates with BFAs/MFAs with an emphasis on interactive/digital design will receive extra consideration
  • 4+ years of relevant experience as an interactive designer
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of HTML and CSS.  Experience in HTML5 and/or CSS3 is of great interest
  • A strong understanding of effective user interface principles.  Experience in designing for mobile products is a decided plus
  • Experience in working within leading web Content Management Systems (ex. Drupal, ExpressionEngine, Convio Luminate, etc.)
  • Experience in web video production and editing is a plus
  • A developed sense for good typography

Introduction: 
Mount Vernon’s Operations and Maintenance Department is seeking a technician to assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical, domestic water and various other systems.  
Flexibility to work non-traditional hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Hours for this position are 1:30pm-10:00pm and days off will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. Employment will be contingent upon successful drug test, background investigation and we participate in E-verify which requires documentation to verify identity and employment authorization.
 
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, security and fire alarm equipment and HVAC equipment and controls
- Installation and repair of various equipment and materials
- Various maintenance tasks including installing piping & electrical wiring, digging trenches, working with sewer tanks, drainage, and pumping equipment, Assembling scaffolding/rigging, and setup and operation of audio/visual equipment
- Conducts all work/orders in accordance with documented procedures and guidelines and compiles a daily record

Qualifications:

Raisers Edge Database Administrator

Description:
The Raiser’s Edge Database Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Raisers Edge (RE) donor database in support of all development initiatives.  A key responsibility is to extract information from Raiser’s Edge via queries, reports and export lists for internal and external use and be able to export the data to external lists in Microsoft Excel as well as mail merge with Microsoft Word.  The Administrator is also responsible for the management and integrity of the data by establishing routines with the development team to assure accuracy in donor records. This position is critical to the support of fundraising goals. 
Responsibilities:  
Database Entry and Administration
- Serve as liaison with the Raiser’s Edge vendor, Blackbaud, and the Mount Vernon I.T. department to ensure proper management and execution of database tasks, use of best practices, and implement RE version updates
- Perform all department database administration functions including execution of periodic database maintenance tasks, backups, security set-up, duplicate record merging, records clean up tasks, and quality control audits
- Develop, train staff, and enforce data entry guidelines to ensure data quality and consistency and provide guidance on improving processes as needed
- Input, update and maintain secure constituent data and oversee data entry of all donations, gift acknowledgements, database entry and clean up
- Provide full oversight for tracking all resources including donations, pledges, gifts-in-kind and cultivation activities
- Produce detailed Crystal Reports generation, construction of complex queries and reports and all related information in the RE database for analysis and all fundraising efforts
- Maintain accurate coding in RE to ensure tracking of all appeals and cultivation activities ensuring all forms of outreach and communication is tracked accurately and appropriately
- Manage batch review and validation process for all gifts, including monthly reconciliation and data exports to the Finance Office
- Produce mailing lists, pledge reminders and donor invoices, preparing data merges and fulfillment of mailings
- Promote Mount Vernon’s use of dashboard management, and Internet technologies for fundraising purposes as it relates to Raiser’s Edge, such as utilizing bulk email, social networking and other new technologies
Staff Training and Support
- Train, oversee and monitor the data entry quality control by Development Office management and support staff as relates to utilization of the Raiser’s Edge application
- Ensure timely processing of contribution, acknowledgement and fulfillment of all donations
- Maintain a departmental User’s Manual for Raiser’s Edge training and operations
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Three years of full charge Raiser’s Edge by Blackbaud database administration required
• Expert ability in creation of reports with Crystal Reports preferred.
• Excellent computer skills including a high level of proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Crystal Reporting, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  This includes advanced Excel techniques, especially with linking workbooks and use of functions
• Previously demonstration possession of analytical, mathematical and problem solving skills
• Familiarity with current non-profit fundraising practices and accounting principles
• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to identify priorities, work independently, meet deadlines and use logic and analysis to solve computer software problems
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, supervisors, vendors, and donors – with the appreciation for teamwork being essential 
• Must be able to exercise decisiveness and good judgment in situations requiring the evaluation of information to reach creative solutions
• Ability to provide leadership and training in the use of the Raiser’s Edge database as it relates to the need in the Office of Development

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is seeking a full-time Gardener to be responsible for assisting in maintaining the gardens and native landscapes to the highest standards on the historic Estate and at the new Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington.  Individual should be experienced in maintaining private estates or large public gardens and be familiar with implementing best horticultural practices including proper pruning, watering, planting and pest control on a wide variety of plants including native perennials, trees and shrubs. Occasional weekend and holiday work required. Position is classified as essential and the incumbent must participate in all emergencies, ice and snow removal and special events.  
 
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of a wide variety of plants including vegtables, fruit trees, boxwood, native shade trees and shrubs.  Care includes planting, fertilizing, pruning, weed control and watering.
- Responsible for staying up to date and informed on horticultural techniques, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers
- Interacts positively with visitors, answering questions and giving directions
- Responsible for assisting with pest control to include identifying and controlling insects, diseases and weeds; Applies insecticides, fungicides and herbicides safely and properly; Maintains proper pesticide records
- Ability to properly prune trees, shrubs and perennials using appropriate techniques to encourage proper growth
- Operates a variety of power equipment such as mowers, blowers and trimmers and able to operate heavy equipment including tractors and forklifts
- Works independently and with a minimum of supervision; Maintains daily records of work activities and submits monthly reports
- Conducts work in accordance with all procedures and guidelines as well as practices and maintains safety standards and procedures in all work areas
- Works closely with all other horticulture personnel, assisting where needed and performs other related duties as requested; Carries out or directs the completion of special assignments
Qualifications: 
  • 2 year degree (minimum) in Horticulture or related degree combined with at least 2 years of horticultural experience
  • 2+ years working in and maintaining public gardens
  • Posses broad range of plant knowledge from vegtables to trees
  • Experience in operating a variety of equipment including tractors and assorted hand and power tools, mowers, loaders and dump trucks
  • Experience and knowledge with pesticides including the proper application of pesticides
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Virginia Pesticide Applicators license
