Since taking possession of George Washington’s estate in 1860, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association has built collections that are as diverse as the first president’s interests. These include an Archaeological Collection and an Architectural Collection of artifacts recovered during excavations and restoration work on the property, as well as significant Library Collections of books and manuscripts, and a Curatorial Collection of fine and decorative arts. Together, the Collections of Mount Vernon combine to offer a portrait of George Washington and his life in eighteenth-century America.
