The Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon is the repository for the archives and records of George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the Mount Vernon Ladies Association.

The Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon is the repository for the archives and records of George Washington’s Mount Vernon and the Mount Vernon Ladies Association.

The collections are available to qualified researchers by written request. Researchers must indicate the nature and purpose of the research, and provide a list of materials to be viewed. The Library reserves the right to restrict any archival material from any researcher at any time without notice.

Records from the MVLA Board and MV Administration

Restrictions: 30 years from its document or file date. Materials in this collection:

EARLY RECORDS 1853-1874:
Correspondence, legal and financial documents, ledgers, printed materials, photographs and other records documenting the activities of the MVLA from 1853-1874. Includes correspondence of Ann Pamela Cunningham.

MVLA RECORDS:
Collected information by and about former MVLA board members, 1859-2012. The files are not comprehensive of all board members who have served.

THE SUPERINTENDENT RECORDS (1885-1976):
Includes notes, reports, receipts, correspondence and day book accounts of the estate. The information was a measure of record keeping and reporting from the Superintendent to the MVLA Board.

THE PRESIDENT FILES, 1976-:
Administration, notes, correspondence, reports, finance from the MV President to the Regent and MVLA Board.

MEETING MINUTES OF COUNCIL:
Notes and minutes from MVLA council meetings.
