The two papers that you can access below were recently delivered at Mount Vernon by Dr. William Fowler, Distinguished Professor of History at Northeastern University. The first paper examines the events surrounding the Newburgh Conspiracy; the second explores George Washington's role in the French and Indian War. A gifted scholar and storyteller, Dr. Fowler is Mount Vernon's very first Gay Hart Gaines Visiting Fellow in American History. His appointment is made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Lewis Lehrman.
