Strangers to the estate, as well as servants accompanying guests, were sometimes housed in this building. At the time of his death, Washington was sorting his military and presidential papers here.
Today visitors to Mount Vernon begin their tour of the Mansion in the Servants' Hall, where a Historic Interpreter provides an introduction to George Washington and his home. The Servants' Hall is attached to the north side of the Mansion by a covered walkway called a colonnade.
