In addition to displaying its holdings on the Estate, Mount Vernon, from time to time, has organized temporary exhibitions, such as Treasures from Mount Vernon: George Washington Revealed (1999-2000), Profile of a Patriot (1999), and Saving Mount Vernon: The Birth of Preservation in America (2003), which it travels to other sites.
Our new museum, opening in October 2006, will feature a changing exhibitions gallery that -- for the first time -- will provide the opportunity to have temporary exhibitions on view at Mount Vernon. We plan to organize one or two exhibitions a year in that space. You will be able to preview highlights from these shows in this section of the Mount Vernon Website. The inaugural show will focus on the close father-son relationship between George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.
