 | | John Augustine Washington III | The Association collects photographic images that illustrate the history of Mount Vernon from the 19th and 20th centuries, including pictures that chart the architectural changes and other restoration taking place on the Estate. There is an extensive collection of images depicting the interiors and exteriors of all the surviving buildings at Mount Vernon. Researchers will also find early images of other historic sites such as Stratford Hall and Kenmore. The Library's compilation of photographic images also consists of many portraits. The majority of the portraits are of people involved in the formation of the Association such as Ann Pamela Cunningham and most of the Vice Regents. Other images include John Augustine Washington III, from whom the Association purchased Mount Vernon, as well as famous visitors to Mount Vernon, such as John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy.
The photographs in this collection are in several forms together with stereo views, cabinet cards, and glass lantern slides. The audio/visual component, which holds materials from approximately 1939, also features famous visitors such as the President of Mexico, who came to Mount Vernon on May 1, 1947.
