The iconic Mount Vernon Estate offers participants a full range of unique and unforgettable opportunities. Participants can enjoy receptions on the mansion piazza, private candlelight tours, catered dinners throughout the historic grounds, specialized tours, and enlightening interactions with nationally-recognized historians. All dining, lodging, and transportation arrangements can be made in advance by the George Washington Leadership Institute staff.

Historic Excursion Programs

The George Washington Leadership Institute offers additional programming that will take you to historic sites throughout the mid-Atlantic. These immersive programs are led by true military historians who focus on the compelling actions, stories, and personalities that have made these places significant leadership lessons from American history. These programs can run for one day or multiple days depending on the organization's objectives and schedules.

Lessons in Leadership Series

The George Washington Leadership Institute's "Lessons in Leadership Series" provides engaging case studies that immerse readers in the actual problems that Washington faced, and insight into the decisions that started a nation. The entire series is available for download in iBook format for use on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The George Washington Leadership Experience

  • The George Washington Leadership Experience is a program exclusively designed for college students and provides an exciting opportunity to examine the character and leadership of our nation's first president, George Washington.

    Developed with experienced student affairs professionals and tailored exclusively to fit the needs of today’s college students, our programming offers students the opportunity to think of leadership development in a new and creative way.

  • Standard programming package is $30.00 per person and includes an interactive discussion on the life and legacy of George Washington, as well as a guided Estate tour tailored to reflect lessons in both leadership and character


    Standard programming package is 3.5 hours long and includes admission to the Mansion, Museum, and Estate


    4 weeks advance registration required


    Minimum of 20 students


    One free university staff/administrator admission per every 10 students


    Programming upgrades include lunch packages as well as several options for guided tours throughout the Estate
