Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens welcomes historian Joseph Ellis, one of the nation’s foremost scholars of American history, for a special book signing from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Shops at Mount Vernon. Joseph Ellis is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Founding Brothers. He also authored the book "His Excellency" about George Washington. more

Fall Harvest Family Days
October 18-19, 2008                                            

The four-acre George Washington: Pioneer Farmer site celebrates the harvest season with FREE horse-drawn wagon rides, a straw bale maze, an opportunity to meet "General Washington," and the chance to learn how to dance 18th-century-style! Plus outdoor cooking demonstrations and concessions. All visitors receive free admission to George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill with the purchase of estate admission. more 

Special Scouting Days Program - November 1 ony!
9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, November 1, Mount Vernon kicks off the Scouting Days program with special activities for scouts from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Scouts have an opportunity to earn merit badges through projects and stations set up with professional surveyors, Mount Vernon archaeologists, woodworking projects, and cooking demonstrations. In addition to these activities, scouts are encouraged to make their own wreath to lay at the tomb of George Washington. more
