MOUNT VERNON, Va. – Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens welcomes Thomas B. Allen, author of “George Washington, Spymaster”, who will sign his book on the national observance of George Washington’s Birthday, Monday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shops at Mount Vernon. In “George Washington, Spymaster”, young readers and adults will discover how the Americans outspied the British and won the Revolutionary War. The author of this fascinating book has sifted through mounds of historical documents and scholarly works to piece together the facts on the world of double agents, covert operations, codes and ciphers, and how military members sent secret messages during George Washington’s time. The shops are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day. No admission is required to shop.

Mount Vernon celebrates George Washington’s birthday with spirited military demonstrations, “America’s Smallest Hometown Parade”, and a moving wreathlaying ceremony at Washington’s tomb. All visitors receive free admission to the estate on February 20.
