George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill at Mount Vernon
Located three miles from the estate on SR 235 South

George Washington’s Gristmill is considered the most authentically
 
Gristmill
restored 18th-century mill in the country. Here, groups experience a private tour of the recently restored water-powered mill conducted by costumed millers who demonstrate its workings. Groups also have an opportunity to walk next door and observe as distillers
 
Interior of Distillery
 operate five copper stills, mash tubs and a boiler to make rye whiskey, at George Washington’s Distillery, one of the largest such facilities of the 18th century. A museum on the second floor features a History Channel video, George Washington's Liquid Gold, and an exhibit, Spirits of Independence: George Washington and the Beginnings of the American Whiskey Industry.

When purchased with Estate admission, students and chaperones receive a Discounted School Rate of $.50 for both Distillery & Gristmill admission. The sites are located three miles from Mount Vernon; public transportation is not available.
