George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens
Accessibility

Mount Vernon welcomes visitors with special needs. We recommend that you speak with Guest Services at the Ford Orientation Center for personalized advice to make the most of your visit. Please be aware that pathways in the historic area can be uneven as they consist of gravel, dirt, and bricks. The estate includes hills, some steep. A shuttle between the Pioneer Farmer Site and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center is available March 11 through November 2.

  • The first floor of the Mansion is accessible to visitors with wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Standard wheelchairs are available first-come, first-served at no cost at the Main Gate.
  • Motorized wheelchairs, sometimes called "scooters", are not allowed in the Mansion. Visitors may choose to borrow a conventional wheelchair at the Ford Orientation Center for use while touring the Mansion.
  • The Ford Orientation Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center are completely accessible and climate controlled.
  • Notebooks for the immersive Revolutionary War experience in the Education Center are available for hearing impaired visitors.
  • Closed captioning is available for all videos in the Education Center with the exception of the Revolutionary War experience and the Legacy Theater.
