South Elevation CA 1900

Judge Bushrod Washington built the porch on the south elevation in 1822. Because this wooden structure was not original to George Washington's time the Mount Vernon Ladies Association removed it in 1932. Today shutters and an entrance to the basement can be seen where the porch once stood.
