American Heritage Chocolate, a subsidiary of Mars, is the only authentic, historic chocolate product on the market. Made in Elizabethtown, PA with the same ingredients that were used in the 18th-century. All American Heritage Chocolate products are certified Kosher, made with all-natural ingredients and no preservatives. This chocolate is fashioned from recipes from 1750 and uses a sprinkling of spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, orange, and red pepper.

Although 18th-century Americans did not enjoy candy bars or other modern chocolate treats as we know them today, they did love chocolate. Chocolate drinks became popular in Colonial America around the time of the Boston Tea Party, when many colonists boycotted tea and drank chocolate instead.

Throughout his adult life, Washington enjoyed chocolate with great frequency, generally as a breakfast beverage. George Washington ordered 20 pounds of chocolate from British merchant Thomas Knox in 1757. Surviving records reveal a number of orders for chocolate, typically from English Merchants.
