The reception will be on the East Lawn and Piazza with unforgettable views of the Potomac River. This premier backdrop will be the setting for a cocktail buffet and private tours of the mansion. In addition, the New Media staff responsible for the creation of this innovative new feature will join us to provide the latest updates on the development and design of this “second best way to visit Mount Vernon.”
Mount Vernon welcomes more than one million visitors each year. These guests experience George Washington’s home as it was at the time of his death in 1799 while also engaging in state-of-the-art exhibits in our museum and education center. Many visitors simply do not have time to take in everything Mount Vernon has to offer. We recognize that many guests want to learn more – before they arrive and after they depart. Moreover, we realize millions of Americans will never have the opportunity to visit the estate in the first place. To remedy this, Mount Vernon is developing a visual, interactive platform for learning and exploration – a 360 degree virtual tour of the Mount Vernon estate.
Clickable points will provide a wealth of informative and educational content about topics such as the Upper Garden, the Blacksmith’s Shop, or the Key to the Bastille in the Central Passage.
Experts share their knowledge of architectural details, objects, and more through video features.
