Colonial Days at Mount Vernon

Experience 18th-century plantation life through engaging demonstrations at the Farm. Participants may also tour the Mansion, meet people from Washington's world, and take part in a special ceremony at Washington's tomb.

Through My Eyes: Character Tours for Students

Learn about George Washington from someone who knew him. Follow them as they go about their daily activities and discover what it was like to live and work at Mount Vernon in the 18th century.

Revolutionary! STEM in Washington's World

Explore Mount Vernon by engaging in a variety of STEM activities.

Characters from Washington’s world discuss the greenhouse heating and advances in farming. Students also learn surveying techniques that George Washington may have used as a young man. During the Mansion tour, participants find objects associated with 18th-century technology.

History Meets Hollywood at Mount Vernon

History Meets Hollywood at Mount Vernon

Go behind the scenes to various locations where the movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets was filmed. While discussing the film, students learn about George Washington and our own national treasure, Mount Vernon. This tour does not include the cellar due to current preservation work.

Telling Their Stories: Mount Vernon's Enslaved People

Explore the estate's historic outbuildings where the enslaved community lived and worked. Hear the stories of individuals such as William Lee, Caroline Branham, and Christopher Sheels, and learn how their work made Mount Vernon a successful plantation.

This tour can be extended with a special wreath-laying at the Slave Memorial.

The Situation Room Experience: Washington’s Cabinet

The Situation Room Experience: Washington’s Cabinet

Students assume the roles of President Washington, his Presidential Cabinet, US Senators, foreign ambassadors, Native American leaders, and members of the press and work together to manage both international and domestic crises in this 75-minute, high-stakes role-playing program.
