John Ball

A millwright from Frederick County, Virginia, Ball was hired to work on George Washington's mill in December of 1769. Ball was the son of William Ball of Lancaster County, and was married to Sarah Ellen Payne in 1767. John Ball later served as a captain in the Fauquier militia. His eldest son, William, may have been the William Ball who was hired by Washington to rebuild his mill in 1791.1
