First-person interpreters can also liven up your dining experience at the Mount Vernon Inn.

Imagine dining with a character from Washington's world, like Dr. Craik, Washington’s friend and personal physician, or James Anderson, one of Washington’s farm managers.

Distillery & Gristmill Tours

Distillery & Gristmill Tours

Weekends Only, April 1 – October 31

George Washington's gristmill could produce 5,000 to 8,000 pounds of flour and cornmeal a day.

In 1799, his distillery produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making it one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America.

At our working mill, watch the water wheel turn the mighty gears as we grind Washington's grain. You can also tour a reconstructed working distillery that produces small batch spirits on site today.
