In honor of Women’s History Month, talk with “Lady Washington” and her beloved granddaughters about the women in George Washington’s life. Drop in to the Interpretation Center on Saturdays and Sundays in March from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
George Washington first met Martha Dandridge Custis in 1758 and their mutual attraction led to their marriage the following year. Martha was a vivacious and engaging companion for George and he valued her company during his many winter encampments during the American Revolution. While George and Martha had no children of their own, Martha was highly attentive to her children and grandchildren. After George was elected as the United States’ first president, Martha became the nation’s first First Lady.
