Slave Memorial Commemoration Ceremony

The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association joins Black Women United for Action to honor the slaves who lived and worked at Mount Vernon with a program and wreath-laying ceremony at the Slave Memorial. The event features dramatic readings, African drumming and uplifting music in recognition of the slaves’ sacrifices and contributions to the early formation of this nation.

This year's commemoration also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Memorial, which was dedicated on September 21, 1983.

The Slave Memorial Commemoration Ceremony at Mount Vernon is included in regular estate admission: adults, $17; children ages 6-11, $8; and children 5 and under are admitted free.
