Experience Washington's most festive holiday event as you tour Mount Vernon by candlelight.
Once our town crier invites your group into the historic area, an expert Mount Vernon guide will walk your guests along candlelit lanes, sharing the history of Christmases past as you approach Washington’s beloved home. Meet characters from Washington’s time, including “Martha Washington” and “Nelly Custis” inside the Mansion as you hear stories about how the Washingtons celebrated Christmas.
After the Mansion tour, guests are invited to partake in 18th-century dancing in the greenhouse and enjoy the crisp evening air near an outdoor bonfire, complete with caroling, cookies, and cider.
Please allow at least one hour for the tour experience from the start time of your ticket.
The Museum and Education Center is open from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. You can explore the museum before or after your scheduled candlelight tour time. Don’t miss our newly opened exhibit on Washington and the books he read and that inspired our first president.
The Shops at Mount Vernon are also open late for Candlelight guests. Find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list. Holiday shopping hours are extended to 9:30 p.m. during this event.
