Slave Memorial Commemoration Ceremony

The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association joins Black Women United for Action to honor the slaves who lived at Mount Vernon with a program and wreathlaying ceremony. The event features dramatic readings, African drumming and uplifting music in recognition of the slaves’ sacrifices and contributions to the early formation of this nation.

Included with Estate admission.

Fall Harvest Family Days

Mount Vernon welcomes the autumn season with Fall Harvest Family Days! The entire family enjoys autumn activities including wagon rides, wheat treading in the 16-sided barn, 18th-century dancing demonstrations, a straw bale maze, farrier (blacksmithing) demonstrations, apple-roasting, corn husk dolls demonstrations and early-American games and music. Potomac River sightseeing cruises are half-price during this weekend event. Fall Harvest Family Days are included in regular Estate admission on October 22&23: adults, $15.00; children ages 6-11, $7.00; and children 5 and under are admitted free.

Yards Brewing Company Beer Dinner

George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, Museum & Gardens and Philadelphia's own, Yards Brewing Company, makers of the Ales of the Revolution, have partnered to bring history and food together for a Colonial Beer Dinner on October 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will begin with a beer reception, featuring Yards’ Brawler, a classic British Mild Ale, paired with tasty appetizers from Mount Vernon Inn Chef Richard Thompson, and guided after-hours tours of George Washington’s Mansion. Guests will also enjoy exclusive access to The Shops at Mount Vernon. During the four-course dinner in the Mount Vernon Inn, Tom Kehoe, founder/ president of Yards, will discuss the pairing of Yards' Ales of the Revolution with the colonial-inspired menu featuring venison tenderloin, duck, and one of George Washington’s favorite dishes, hoecakes.

Tickets are $95 and can be purchased at MountVernon.org, in person at the Ford Orientation Center, or by calling 703-780-6868.  This special event is limited in capacity, and advanced registration is required.
