George Washington Denture & Last Tooth on Display

The lower half of one of the nation’s most famous dentures and George Washington’s last remaining tooth are on display at Mount Vernon!On loan from The New York Academy of Medicine, the denture was the first of several dentures that John Greenwood made for Washington and is dated 1789, the year that Washington took his oath of office in New York City.

Blacksmith Shop Now Open at Mount Vernon

After several years of research, archaeology, and reconstruction, George Washington's blacksmith shop is back in business! The building is a careful reproduction of the type of blacksmith shop that operated at Mount Vernon during Washington’s lifetime.

The National Treasure Tour at Mount Vernon

During the "National Treasure Tour” visitors can take an hour-long walking tour that includes behind-the-scenes information about areas where “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets” filming took place and how these locations were used during George Washington’s time.

The Upper Garden includes a wide variety of flowers and trees, boxwood planted in Washington's day, and a few vegetable beds. The beds have been restored to their originial size, based on careful archaeological excavations, and two boxwood parterres have been re-created with the French fleur-de-lis design that Washington admired.

This four-acre site features rare-breed farm animals (oxen, mules, roosters, sheep, and chickens) similar to the varieties Washington had at his farms.

On a daily basis, April1 through October, costumed distillers demonstrate the distillation process in the two-story building, which also features a storage cellar, office, and two bedrooms where the site manager and assistant would have lived.

Tribute at the Tomb

This 30-minute guided walking tour examines Washington's brilliant design for the grounds around Mount Vernon. To celebrate Washington the farmer, Mount Vernon’s farm staff kick-off the season on the Fourth of July with wheat-treading demonstrations at the George Washington: Pioneer Farmer site. Costumed staff lead Mount Vernon’s horses as they tread wheat in the 16-sided barn at 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
