Join Mount Vernon in its rain-or-shine fall celebration of the history of the Virginia wine industry on the east lawn overlooking the Potomac River. Participants sample wines from award-winning Virginia wineries, learn about the successes and failures of our Founding Father’s wine endeavors, enjoy live blues, and meet “George Washington” on the Mansion's piazza. Guests have the opportunity to experience an evening tour of George Washington's home and are invited to visit the rarely-open basement cellar vaults where he stored his wine. The Shops at Mount Vernon will be open for early Christmas shopping. FRUIT & CHEESE BOXES Picnic on the lawn with a delicious, fresh selection of fruit, cheese, summer sausage, crackers, wine biscuits and Virginia peanuts, all ready and waiting for your arrival. Fruit & Cheese Boxes are packaged for lounging on the lawn or toting around the tent. Each box serves two and is available by advance purchase only. $24 each. Tickets go on sale September 1 and are available at the Ford Orientation Center, www.ticketmaster.com, or 703-573-SEAT. Early ticket purchases are suggested for this popular event. $30 per person. Please note other limitations: The Wine Festival occurs rain or shine, and all ticket purchases are final. The mansion, wine cellar, and outbuildings are open during the Wine Festival. The gardens, Pioneer Farmer site, wharf, and Tomb areas will not be open. ABSOLUTELY NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGES. Mount Vernon reserves the right to search bags and to refuse entry to guests bringing food and/or beverages onto the estate. Guests are welcome to bring a blanket or a small lawn chair to sit on the east lawn. Tables are not allowed. Seating is not provided. Pets are NOT allowed at Mount Vernon during the Wine Festival. Mount Vernon is a NON-SMOKING site, however, AT THIS EVENT, a designated smoking area is provided near the Ladies' Room. Smokers who do not comply will be escorted off the estate. Be prepared to show a valid photo I.D. for alcohol consumption. Under-age guests and designated drivers will receive a commemorative item and unlimited soft drinks courtesy of the Coca-Cola Company. The Wine Festival is an adult event. Infants under one year of age can be admitted without a ticket. All other must have a ticket for admission.
