This weekend at the Gristmill visitors can watch as millers work the Oliver Evans milling system. The system is an intricate system of pullies and levers that won U.S. Patent #3. Watch as water from Dogue Creek goes through the Gristmill, setting the massive gears into motion, and see the end result: cornmeal ready to use. George Washington was known first and foremost as commander in chief of the Continental Army and our nation's first president. But Washington was also a successful businessman and innovative farmer. George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill showcase Washington’s entrepreneurship and his vision for America’s future.
Admission to George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill is $4 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-11, and free for children 5 and under. When combined with admission to Mount Vernon, tickets are $2 for adults, $1.50 for children ages 6-11, and free for children 5 and under.
